About Axis & Allies & Grand Strategy

Axis & Allies, theater by theater

Axis & Allies puts the Second World War on your table, with each player commanding a major power and its economy. The 1941 edition is the shortest and the best first box. 1942 Second Edition is the standard full game, and Pacific 1940 goes deeper into a single theater. North Africa, Stalingrad and Battle of the Bulge zoom in on one campaign each. Extra hit dice and IPC chips keep a long game tidy.

Risk beyond the classic map

If classic Risk is already on your shelf, these two take it further. Risk 2210 A.D. moves the conquest into the future with commanders, energy and battles under the sea and on the Moon, and the Frontline expansion adds Mars. Risk Godstorm sends ancient civilizations to war with their gods watching and a whole underworld to fight over.

Robots, tycoons and negotiators

Not every strategy game is a war. Robo Rally has you program a robot's moves in advance and then watch the factory floor ruin your plan; its expansions add new boards and hazards. Acquire is a hotel-chain investment game that has rewarded good timing since the 1960s. Diplomacy has no dice at all, only seven powers, written orders and whatever your neighbors promised you.

Asked about Axis & Allies & Grand Strategy

Which Axis & Allies should I buy first?

Axis & Allies 1941 is the quickest to learn and play. If your group already likes long strategy games, 1942 Second Edition is the full standard game.

How long do these games take?

Plan for a full evening. Axis & Allies 1941 can be finished in about two hours, while the larger editions and Diplomacy can run much longer.

Do the Robo Rally expansions work alone?

No. The expansions add boards, cards and hazards and need the Robo Rally base game to play.
