About Monopoly

The classic board, since 1935

Monopoly has been on our shelf since 1935, and the heart of it has not changed: roll, buy, build, collect rent. The classic game plays 2 to 6 people from age 8, with 28 title deeds to fight over and a banker everyone watches closely. Today's box adds a storage tray and larger tokens, and if counting paper money slows your table down, the Ultimate Banking and App Banking editions keep the totals for you.

Monopoly Deal and the quick ones

Not every night has room for a full board. Monopoly Deal squeezes the property grab into a deck of cards — collect three full sets before anyone else and the game is over in about 15 minutes. It comes plain, in a storage tin, and in editions from Harry Potter to the NFL. Monopoly Knockout seats up to 8 for a 20-minute party round, and Monopoly GO! brings the mobile game's pace to the table.

Themed editions, Junior and expansions

Themed editions swap the streets for a world you already love: Pokémon, Wicked, Batman, House of the Dragon, Fourth Wing, The Mandalorian and Grogu. Monopoly Junior shortens the game and simplifies the money for ages 5 and up, with Bluey, Super Mario, dinosaur and unicorn boards. Already own the classic? The Go to Jail, Free Parking Jackpot and Buy Everything expansions each add a new twist to the board you have.

Asked about Monopoly

Which Monopoly should we start with?

For a family with players 8 and up, the classic board game is the one to pull down first. With younger kids, start with Monopoly Junior; for a quick game or a travel bag, Monopoly Deal.

Do the Monopoly expansions work on their own?

No. Go to Jail, Free Parking Jackpot and Buy Everything are add-ons, so you need a classic Monopoly game to play them.

How long does a game of Monopoly take?

It depends on the box. Monopoly Deal runs about 15 minutes and Knockout about 20, while a full classic game can fill an evening.
