About Cards & Dice

Yahtzee and the dice cup

Five dice, three rolls a turn and thirteen boxes to fill on the score card — Yahtzee is easy to teach and hard to stop playing. The current set comes with a collapsible cup and a storage case, so it packs flat for a trip. Yahtzee Frenzy speeds things up by mixing dice with cards and letting everyone roll at once. Either one fills twenty minutes without taking over the table.

Card games that fit in a pocket

Our card games are built for short turns. 5 Alive is a fast counting game where the pile must not pass 21. Rook is the trick-taking classic with its own 57-card deck. Dump the Skunk!, designed by Reiner Knizia, is a push-your-luck game anyone 7 and up can learn in a minute. That's Mine!, Snailed It! and Throwing Paws add grabbing, racing and a bit of cat chaos.

Tiles and four-in-a-row, card style

Not everything here is a deck. The Original Rummikub uses numbered tiles: players lay down runs and groups, then rearrange what is already on the table to get rid of their rack first. The Connect 4 Card Game turns the grid into a hand of cards for 2 to 4 players, which makes it a good travel version. Most games on this shelf start at age 7 or 8.
