About Heroscape

Where to start with Heroscape

Heroscape is a miniatures battle game played on terrain you build yourself from interlocking hex tiles. The Age of Annihilation Master Set is the full starting point, with the rules, a large stack of terrain and several armies in one box. The Battle for the Wellspring set is a smaller, quicker way in for two players. Either one gives you everything needed for a first battle, and every other box on this shelf adds to it.

Army expansions

Each army expansion brings new figures and the army cards that tell you how they move, attack and use their special powers. Knights, undead riders, winged Kyrie warriors, molten crustaceans and tanuki tricksters all fight under the same rules, so you can draft a force from several boxes. Some packs come painted and some come unpainted for hobbyists; the listing says which, and our paint set covers the Age of Annihilation colors.

Terrain that changes the fight

Terrain is half the game. Height gives your figures an advantage, water slows them down, and lava or snow fields bring rules of their own. The Lands, Waters, Swamps, Snow Fields and Lava Fields of Valhalla expansions add more hexes in different types, and the Grove at Laur's Edge adds trees and cover. Terrain packs need a master or starter set to play.

Do I need a master set to use the expansions?

Yes. Army and terrain expansions add to the game; the rules and the core terrain come in the Age of Annihilation Master Set or the Battle for the Wellspring starter set.

Are Heroscape miniatures painted?

It depends on the box. Some editions come pre-painted and others are unpainted, and each listing states which version you are looking at.

What age is Heroscape for?

Heroscape is made for ages 14 and up. The boxes contain small parts and are not for children under 3.
