About Action & Electronic

Bop It! and Simon

Bop It! has been shouting orders since 1996: bop it, twist it, pull it, and do it faster every round. The classic unit plays solo or passed around a group, Bop It! Extreme adds more commands, and themed editions bring Spider-Man, Darth Vader, Buzz Lightyear and star quarterbacks into the mix. Simon is quieter and just as tense — four colored buttons, one growing pattern, and your memory against the lights.

Operation, Perfection and steady hands

Operation has tested nerves since 1965. Lift a plastic ailment out of Cavity Sam with the tweezers, touch the sides, and the buzzer tells the whole room. Perfection gives you a tray of shapes and a ticking timer before the board pops everything back out; Perfection Plus adds a 2-player duel. Both train fine motor skills, and both include small pieces that are not suitable for children under 3.

Contraptions and tabletop action

Mouse Trap is half game, half machine: build the contraption piece by piece, then turn the crank and see if the cage drops. Crocodile Dentist is a one-tooth-at-a-time dare for ages 4 and up. For head-to-head play, Crossfire and Connect 4 Shots are fast and loud, and Hypershot packs five tabletop hockey games into one electronic unit. Check each listing for battery requirements.
